Kirsebærtrærne blomstrer og det summer av liv i nitt barndoms paradis. Jeg er en stolt storebror som mer enn gjerne poserer for mor i den solfylte dagen. Jeg ser søndagsfin ut i hjemmestrikket pullover og hjemmesydde knebukser som mor nok har stått for. Lillebroren i vogna synes nok kanskje at sollyset er i sterkeste laget, men ser ellers ut til å trives. Jeg overvåket og voktet hans sikkerhet på alle måter. Når mor hyrte inn ungjenter for å passe lillebroren og trille ham litt, fulgte jeg etter som ivrig speider og rapportør. En gang oppe ved Lien grep jeg resolutt inn og krevde bedre kontroll med farkosten. Ungjenta slapp vogna og lot den trille foran seg nedover Kvalsgutua mens hun løp etter. Min allerede den gang vel utviklede forutseenhet (som Skorpion) gjorde at det ble slutt med at andre trillet min lillebror! Da Alf Prøysen kom med Lillebrors vise og Blåbærturen, var jeg hellig overbevist om at det var min lillebror han skrev om og at noen hadde fortalt ham at jeg hadde fått en lillebror. Mor lot meg kanskje forbli i den troen, hun kjøpte Prøysens visebok og så sang vi den sammen til jeg kunne den utenat. Seinere testet jeg nok lillebrors ulike ferdigheter med atskillig mer storebroderlig oppfinnsomhet, både når det gjaldt verbale ferdigheter og forbudte ord, men kanskje verst da jeg lot han teste motstandsdyktigheten mot vepsestikk. Det ende heldigvis godt!
