Kafeen på Svelgarhaug i Tyssedalen. Til h. i døra: Berit Gavle. Til venstre Marta Stalheim. Lars Stana (far til Torkel) dreiv kafeen i fyrstninga av 1900-talet. Huset vart sett opp som brakke då vegen forbi vart bygd av Den norske turistforening. Kopien, frå repro negativ, er kosta av Stana.
Født i Lofoten. Kom til Skjeggedal som husholderske i huset på Svelberghaugen for anleggsingeniør Thorvald Schult og assistenen i 1906 (fortalt av sonen Anders Gavle (1908-1989) på band 79 Kraftmuseet).
Berit (Berithe Maria Walff - treff i digitalarkivet) var dotter av ein væreigar i Storvågan, Kabelvåg i i Lofoten. (Storvågen er no Lofotmuseet).
Berit og Anders Gavle fekk tre barn: Anders, Kristi og Johan Gavle.
Berit møtte mannen Anders Gavle (1879-1952) då han kom til anlegget i 1907. Berit reiste til syster si i Oslo då ho venta sonen Anders i 1908 og flytta ikkje tilbake til Skjeggedal før Andres var 8 månader. Familien budde sidan mest i "oppsynsmannsboligen" i Skjeggedal, men hadde òg leilegheit i firemannsbustad på Kvernhusteigen i åra då barna gjekk på skule (kjelde: skriftleg tekst av Torkel Stana om skulegang i Tyssedal. TS budde hjå Gavlefamilien i vekene ein periode.) Berit hadde dei siste åra ei lita leilegheit i huset til sonen Johan i Hovden 5, Odda. Ho var flink med hendene og sydde mellom anna jonsokbruredrakt til bruk for barna i Skjeggedal.
Berit var søskenbarn av Sofie Bordewick frå Vågan i Lofoten (band 79) som gifta seg med ingeniør Schult i 1909 (Digitalarkivet).
