Fra serie norske landskapsfotografier tatt av den engelske fotografen Henry Rosling (1828-1911), tildels utgitt av svogeren Francis Friths (1822-1898) enorme fotograffirma i Reigate, England, etablert 1859 og en av verdens største forhandlere av fotografiske prospekter. Firmaet presenterte mer enn 200 norske motiver for salg gjennom sine kataloger for et internasjonalt marked, ikke minst basert på økende turisme.
Henry Rosling var sønn av fotografen Alfred Rosling (1802-1882) som også drev trelasthandel med Norge. Fra skyssdagbøker vet vi at Henry Rosling reiste i Norge i 1864. Han skal ha vært her flere ganger, antatt omkring 1873 og på 1890-tallet.
Mappen ble innkjøpt av Norsk Kulturråd i 1991.
