Utstillingen «1814 – Spillet om Danmark og Norge» er et samarbeid mellom Det Nationalhistoriske Museum Frederiksborg Slot og Norsk Folkemuseum. Årsakene til og følgene av begivenhetene i 1814, vises på ulike plan gjennom utstillingens temaer og belyser storpolitikkens konsekvens for befolkningen i Norden. Som et bakteppe presenteres den dansk-norske staten og tidens lagdelte samfunn.
En overordnet målsetning er å gi et balansert bilde av de over 400 årene unionen med Danmark varte. Den internasjonale situasjonen i perioden vies stor oppmerksomhet med hovedvekt på hvordan alliansepolitikken og napoleonskrigene påvirket forholdene i Norden. Tronfølger og stattholder Christian Frederik løftes frem som en sentral, men omstridt aktør, også i dag.
