Laget i Chicago ca. 1950. Dette var den mest populære av denne type maskiner. Maskinene har ikke kapstan. Istedet er det en stor spole som tar opp tråden. Derved vil ikke diameteren og samtidig hastigheten på båndet øke så meget som om begge spolene hadde samme diameter. Maskinene var meget driftssikre.
Båndspiller, trådspiller produsert av Webster-Chicago i 1950. Trådspilleren var en kortlivet, men viktig form for kommersielt lydopptakerutstyr. Teknisk sett går trådspillerens historie tilbake til 1800-tallet, men trådspillere ble først og fremst produsert i siste halvdel av 1940-årene og begynnelsen av 1950-årene. Muligheten for å ta opp lyd hjemme førte til stor interesse. Dette er en Webster-Chicago Modell 80, som var en av de vanligste typene amerikanske trådspillere. Synet på trådspilleren som en teknologisk avansert gjenstand var synlig i populærkulturen. I Arthur Millers skuespill "En handelsreisendes død", som hadde premiere i 1949, er det en scene hvor hovedpersonens sjef er så fasinert av en trådspiller at han ikke kan konsentrere seg eller føre en samtale.
