Text in English: A box for containing a seaman''s smaller possessions. In it were a pair of woollen stockings, an additional six pieces in the same material, a roughly two metre long piece of rope and a bentwood box, No. 14275, containing some 100 shoe pegs and a knife. Three similar boxes have been found on the Vasa.
The locking mechanism
The lid of the box has a combination lock that consists of four pegs on the top and three locking wheels with a bolt underneath. Three of the pegs on top each regulate a locking wheel underneath. The fourth peg regulates the entire locking bolt. The box is locked by inserting the three-pronged fork into the wheels.
