This site of a repair base in Paterson Inlet, Stewart Island, New Zealand has been officially listed as an Archaeological Site by Heritage New Zealand. It accordingly now has a level of protection and is officially recognised in New Zealand law. In April 2014 a two day 'Norsk Feiring' attracted 200 people to the site. It was attended by both descendants of some Norwegians who stayed, and descendants of men who were seasonal workers from Stewart Island who worked on the factory ships. A 60 page publication assembled a comprehensive photographic collection: The Whalers' Base - Facts Photos and People associated with the Norwegian presence in Paterson Inlet, Stewart Island, New Zealand 1924-1936. J.P.C. Watt. ISBN 978-0-9597719-4-7.
