Norges Undomsforbund overtok Rønningen 1. april 1917 som ‘Fælles utflugtssted for Kristiania kristelige foreninger av unge’. Åpningsfest ble holdt 17. mai hvor det skal ha møtt fram rundt 2000 personer.
Rønningen, eller Rydningen, var opprinnelig plass under Myrer gård. Etter åpningen av Gjøvikbanen i 1900 kjøpt av murmester Hagbart Hansen som oppførte Maridalens Turisthotel. I 1917 ble stedet solgt til A/S Rønningen ved Norges Kristelige Ungdomsforbund som drev stedet som pensjonat og kafé og sted for sportsandakter, barne- og ungdomsarbeid. Siden 1969 Rønningen folkehøgskole.
