Bildet er hentet fra forbryteralbum/sedlighetsalbum brukt av politiet i Kristiania (Christiania) i siste halvdel av 1800-tallet.
Politiet registrerte prostituerte for kontroll. Prostitusjon var egentlig ulovlig, men ble tolerert så lenge de prostituerte overholdt politiets reglementeringssystem.
Albumet inneholder også register med bilder av sedlighetsforbrytere, brukt til identifisering. Dette er regulære forbryterfotografier for identifisering som politiets fotograf har tatt. De fleste har forbrutt seg mot "N.L 6-22-3" Dette er en gammel bestemmelse fra Christian Vs Norske lov som sier at "De, som forføre Ungdommen til Drik, Dobbel og anden forargelig Omgjængelse, straffis paa deris Boeslod og forvisis byen. have de ingen Boeslod, straffis paa Kroppen med fængsel og Arbeid, som Forseelsen er til". Det er en bestemmelse som kunne tolkes vidt, og som derfor var grei å bruke mot alle som hadde en eller annen form uakseptabel og usedelig oppførsel. De øvrige forbrytere i albumet er sortert etter forbrytelse, f.eks voldtekt og voldtekstforsøk, blodskam, blotting m.m.
