Kulturverkstedet er velkjent for de fleste vefsninger. Flertallet vet nok at denne kafeen opprinnelig var handelshus. Det var kjøpmann Jacob C Jacobsen som i 1862 bygde Mosjøens største og fineste forretningsgård, og fram til 1960 var det butikk i bygningen.
Derimot er det ikke sikkert at alle husker den nære historien, for eksempel at Per Hind Angermo startet brusfabrikk i bygget i 1977. Han hadde kjøpt et konkursbo fra Målselv og etablerte Helgeland Bruz. I et intervju uttalte Angermo:
- Det er ingen hemmelighet at mange har dødsdømt oss på forhånd. Optimistene har det vært langt mellom. Derfor håper jeg at vi skal makte å gjøre de profesjonelle pessimistene i Vefsn til skamme, sa han, men dessverre lyktes han ikke. Jeg har ikke funnet ut hvor mange år brusfabrikken holdt ut, men Kulturverkstedet ble åpnet i 1983.
Daglig leder var Svein Dahl. I starten hadde han fire personer i arbeid, men han regnet med å måte øke til sju-åtte for å produsere 13 sorter brus og tre sorter saft.
