  • A former Alvis factory worker has told me that eighteen Standard British Army specification Mk 2 Stalwarts were delivered to the docks for Sweden, delivered in three groups of six. It would be great to know who installed the hydraulic winches on the Mk 1 / 101. I have presumed that the FOCO cranes were possibly installed by FOCO themselves, but would love to hear from anyone who has photos or story of fitting the cranes and the 101 winches.

Would also love to know the chassis numbers of the Stalwarts still in Sweden’s museums.

We have a group on Facebook for former Stalwart Operators and people interested in the vehicle.

  • WOW, almost three years since I started asking for information about these, and still waiting for some museums to answer the most basic of questions. But I’ve learnt a lot.

Floating trailer Flytsläpvagn 803 was designed by Kustartilleri to transport the Bofors 7.5/65 artillery gun across water, so they could be used on any island if needed. Kustartilleri made the trailers in their own Rosenholm workshop, but the trailers could not leave the site until the fortress gateway was widened.

All 6 trailers have chassis number that show they were made in 1974.
There is only one know incident of the trailer being used to transport rubbish.

I am told by Ingemar Persson that the trailer had loading ramps. The Amfibiebil 101 B or C would park facing the front of the trailer. The trailer has a winch roller and rope guides on top of the front panel. The gun was winched up the ramp and into the transport position by the 101’s winch. I have on my website photos of the inside of the trailer, and the trailer in the water with the gun on the back of it.

I know of at least two Flytsläpvagn 803 trailers that are still in preservation.
It would be nice if Rörligt Kustartilleri arranged to film the loading and unloading of the 7.5/65 gun into a Flytsläpvagn 803 trailer, to record history.
