Denne kniven eies av Ole Disen fra Sør-Odal, men ble utlånt til museet for avfotografering sommeren 2019. Ettersom knivmakeren Ole Disen (1887-1939) ikke er nevnt i Norsk knivforenings trykte register «Knivmakere og knivsmeder» (2007) oppfordret vi eieren av denne kniven til å forsøke å skaffe litt mer informasjon om knivmakeren. Han responderte med epost som blant annet inneholdt følgende informasjon:
«Jeg har vært på besøk på Norddisen gård i helga og fikk tatt noen mobilbilder. Fikk snakket med Olaug Holth, som er datter av Ole Disen ( 1887-1939, se foto Thora og Ole ). Hun er 98 år og bor fortsatt på gården sammen med sin ugifte datter, Kari Holth.
Det var begrenset hva jeg fikk ut av den gamle damen, men sammen med dattera fikk jeg vite at Ole først og fremst var gårdbruker. Da han var 15 år måtte han ta over gården etter at faren døde. I tillegg var han tømmermåler og skogbruker. Han var interessert i våpen og deltok på landsskytterstevnet flere ganger. I 1912 på Elverum oppnådde han premie i stangskyting (se foto). I smia nede ved Glomma (se foto) lagde han forskjellig hesteredskap og kniver. Mest arbeidskniver (se foto kjøkkenkniv), men også staskniver. Han lagde en spesielt fin staskniv til sin kone Thora (se bilde «Kniv Thora»). Den er veldig flott. Jeg synes den er like fin som Vestby-knivene. Ole var også dyktig med tre. Han hadde dreiebenk og lagde jojo til ungene på Disenå. Han lagde boller og stettefat i tre. Syskrin med ledd var også noe han lagde mange av.»
Høsten 2024 fikk Norsk skogmuseum at eierskapet til kniven hadde gått videre i familien Disen ved at Oskar Disen i 2020 fikk den som konfirmasjonsgave.
SubjectKniv, lagd av Ole Disen (1887-1939) fra Sør-Odal i Hedmark. Redskapet er 21,2 centimeter langt fra odden på bladet i den ene enden til knappen i skaftenden i motsatt ende. Bladet er 9,8 centimeter langt, snaut 1,8 centimeter bredt ved brystningen og snaut 3 millimeter tjukt ved den bakre delen av bladryggen. Slipefasene på eggsida er om lag 6 millimeter brede. Også den fremre delen av bladryggen er fasslipt. Smedstempelet «O. DISEN» er plassert oppunder blandryggen på venstre side, sett i knivbrukerens perspektiv. Skaftet er lagd av et gulhvitt, hardt materiale, muligens hvalrosstann. Det har et ovalt tverrsnitt og er konvekst i lengderetningen. Begge skaftendene er beslått med cirka 3 centimeter lange nysølvholker. I den bakre skaftenden er det påsatt en liten messingknapp i enden av tangen på knivbladet, som går gjennom skaftets sentralakse i full lengde.
Denne kniven ble innlånt fra Ole Disen fra Sør-Odal med sikte på at museet skulle få fotografere den sommeren 2019. Deretter var det forutsetningen at Disen skulle ha kniven tilbake. Fotografering ble utført i slutten av august 2019.
