HistoryAktiv i Tyssedal Musikkforening frå han var 9 år. Spelta kornett frå starten. Overtok som dirigent då faren Randolf døydde. Spela saman med Charles Nymann, Rickard Kjelstrup og Harald Knutsson. Lærte komposisjonslære ved Musikkonservatoriet i Bergen. Komponerte særleg i krigsåra 1940-45.Fekk musikken arrangert av Johannes Hansen (komponist av Valdresmarsjen.) Dirigent for Nå Musikklag og Tyssedal Skolekorps ein periode. Og aktiv i Tyssedal Mannskor og idrett, m.a. fagforeningsidrett. Gift med Ada Sjursen.
(født 3. oktober 1917, død 23. desember 1997) var norsk klarinettist og pedagog. I en årrekke var han Norges ledende utøver på sitt instrument, og mange av dagens profesjonelle klarinettister og klarinettpedagoger har vært hans elever. Hans eldre bror var fiolinisten Aage Kjelstrup som spilte 2. fiolin i Oslo Filharmoniske Orkester i siste del av musikerkarrièren etter å ha vært fiolinist og kapellmester på restauranter i en årrekke.
Kjelstrup var militærmusiker i Bergen (1937–41) og spilte samtidig i Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester før han reiste til Oslo for å studere med Oslo Filharmoniske Orkesters legendariske soloklarinettist Erling Carlsen. Senere studerte han med den franske klarinettlegenden Louis Cahuzac, og han førte Cahuzacs faglige prinsipper og spillestil til Norge.
Han var en tid musikksjef i Hans Majestet Kongens Garde. I hovedstaden spilte han i Nationaltheatrets orkester (1946–55) og deretter i Oslo Filharmoniske Orkester (1955–73). Fra 1962 var han orkestrets soloklarinettist. Han var en av stifterne av Den Norske Blåsekvintett i 1955, og her musiserte han sammen med norske toppmusikere som fløytisten Ørnulf Gulbransen, oboisten Tom Klausen, hornisten Ivar Bratlie og fagottisten Torleiv Nedberg. Han spilte regelmessig kammermusikk med Hindarkvartetten.
Han var førsteamanuensis i klarinett ved den nystartede Norges musikkhøgskole (1973–84), professor samme sted (1985), samt lærer ved Barratt Due Musikkinstitutt (1973–94). Han var også dirigent for flere korps. Til Kjelstrups minne er det utgitt en CD med arkivopptak av Kjelstrup som solist og kammermusiker. En av hans elever, dirigenten Ole Kristian Ruud, har skrevet tekstboken med biografisk stoff om Kjelstrup. Albumet rommer en rekke arkivopptak med Kjelstrup hvor han framfører verk av blant andre Bjarne Brustad og kan oppleves som solist og kammermusiker. Læreren Erling Carlsen kan også høres på Cd' en. Tyssedal Musikkforening anno 1930. Tyssedal Musikkforening ble stiftet 9. desember 1913. Stiftere og første styre var: Formann J. Ulriksen, kasserer P. W. Hansen, sekretær K. H. Karlsen, styremedlemmer K. Nilsen, Nils Handegård, Einar Seim og J. Larsen. Etter henstilling av P. G. Brekke til direktør Ragnvald Blakstad, kjøpte AS Tyssefaldene de første instrumenter. Musikkforening hadde sin offentlige debut 17. mai 1914. Siden laget følte seg mindre sterke i de mystiske notetegn, ba de trommeslageren om å overdøve alle unoter. Det fortelles at trommeslageren var situasjonens herre. Karl A. Larsen ledet musikkforeningen fra 1917, og ble avløst av Randolf Sjursen i 1927, som ledet laget og komponerte mye av musikken i 30 år.
