Den slekt som har virket lengst på Hitra som handelsmenn og proprietærer, er uten tvil slekten Parelius. Den kom
til Hitra i slutten av 1600 tallet med brødrene Jørgen og Gabriel Clausen Parelius. Den siste ble borger på Valen
(Heggåsen). Han slo seg stort opp, ikke minst ved heldige giftemål. Hans sønn, Rasmus Rosing Parelius, kom ved
giftermål i besittelse av Hopsjø, som snart ble det største handelsstedet på Hitra. Han ble etterfulgt av sin sønn
Niels Rosing Parelius, som igjen ble fulgt av sin brorsønn Rasmus Brochmann Parelius. Etter han kom hans sønn
Niels Rosing Parelius d. y., og så dennes sønn Hans Holst Lund Parelius, som døde ugift i 1905. Etter hans død
ble Hopsjø solgt ut av slekten etter å ha vært i dens eie fra 1747.
