Erling Søiland (28.05.1889- )
Samlingen består av glassnegativer, nitratnegativer og smalfilm, og utgjør 4522 hovednummer, i tillegg til undernummer. Erling Søiland startet foretning på Skagen i 1915, og etablerte "Søilands Papirhandel, Erling Søiland AS", i Kirkegaten 7 i 1918 . Her drev han både papirhandel og fotografisk foretning sammen med sin kone frem til 1961. Erling Søiland solgte fotografiapparater og fotoalbum, og tok imot filmer for fremkalling og kopiering. I begynnelsen av 1920- tallet begynte han å fotografere, blant annet for Stavanger Aftenblad og for politiet, som ikke hadde egne fotografer. Han tok også oppdrag for foreninger, bedrifter og private, og var alltid til stede ved 17. mai arrangementene. Arkivet omfatter perioden ca 1900- 1950, med hovedvekt på årene ca 1910- 1940. Søiland samlingen ble gitt i gave til Sjøfartsmuseet av barnebarnet Per Magne Vølstad i 1984.
Samlingen utgjør hovedsakelig 17.mai (og 1. mai ?) bilder. Andre motiver er gatebilder fra Stavanger by, bilder fra militær og sivilforsvarsøvinger, kronprinsfamiliens besøk i 1939, freden i 1945 med mer.
Fotografering: May 9, 1945 - May 11, 1945 (Flyplassen var bare åpen for tilskuere noen få dager, amerikanerne kom til Sola 9-10.mai 1945.)
