Tyske soldater bygger stilling på Stabburshaugen. Vi ser Harstadgårdsbakken i venstre bildekant og «gammelsykehuset" bak det mørke huset til høyre (som for øvrig var et hus bygd for det norske forsvaret en gang på 1930-tallet).
Bildet er tatt av den tyske soldaten Siegmund Danckwerts. Danckwerts kom til Norge som soldat i 1940, og var her inntil 1943. Store deler av oppholdet må ha blitt tilbragt i Harstadområdet, men bildene viser at han også var innom Østlandet, Mosjøen, Lofoten og Narvik. Danckwerts var Unteroffizier da han kom til Norge, men må ha steget flere ganger i gradene i løpet av oppholdet, for han skal ha vært Leutnant da han ble sendt til østfronten rundt juletider 1943. Året etter falt han i nærheten av Minsk.
