Svart-hvitt-fotografi fra skogsterreng der det var opplagt en haug med tyrirøtter på en lysning i barskog der furu var det dominerende treslaget. Ut fra aksesjonssammenhengen er det nærliggende å anta at bildet er tatt et eller annet sted på skogeiendommen som hørte til garden Østre Hanestad i Rendalen, der skogeieren Andreas Mohr Øvergaard og kollegaen Otto Aakrann fra Elverum drev tjærefabrikk i perioden 1911-1920. Hovedråstoffet i produksjonen var tyriholdige furustubber, som måtte brytes opp av bakken og lufttørkes før veden kunne kjøres til fabrikken, noe som antakelig ble gjort på sledeføre vinterstid. Her er det reist en staur ved sida av tjærehaugen, som hadde et volum på en «skogskubikkmeter». Hvilken funksjon stauren hadde, vet vi foreløpig ikke.
Det går an å destillere tjærestoffer fra mange slags ved, men skal en få større mengder tjære, må en ha feit furuved, helst rein tyri fra stubber på gamle hogstfelt. I kjerneveden på slike stubber kan det være 15 til 30 prosent harpiks, i ytetveden i beste fall 5 prosent. Noen år etter hogsten vil imidlertid yteveden råtne. Dermed blir det noe enklere å få opp stubbene, og det blir enklere å skave bort den yteveden som har lite tjærestoffer før destillasjonsprosessen starter. Innhentinga av tyri til denne prosessen var en tung og arbeidskrevende prosess. Minst vanskeligheter voldte de minste stubbene. Her kunne karene hakke løs jorda rundt stubben og angripe den ved å sette et spett under ei av de kraftigste rotgreinene. Når de da la vekta si på spettet, endte det som regel med at stubben løsnet og kunne trekkes opp. Men på den tida da dette fotografiet ble tatt var det fortrinnsvis de største furutrærne som ble felt, og store stubber var atskillig vanskeligere å få løs. Her måtte det stubbebryter, jekk (jfr. SJF.14702) eller dynamitt til. To karer med handredskap kunne bryte to-tre slike hauger som den vi ser på dette fotografiet på en dag. Med sprengstoff kunne dagsprestasjonene fordobles, men dynamitten var kostbar og langt fra ufarlig. Med stubbebryter eller jekk lå gjerne dagsprestasjonene på fire-fem kubikkmeter.

Bildet har vært opphengt i en øyeskrue som er skrudd inn noenlunde på midten av den øvre rammelistas bakside.

På baksida av dette innrammete fotografiet har noen skrevet: «En skogskubikkmeter tyri til Hanestad tjærefabrik, Øvre Rendal- I drift 1911-1920. Gave fra Ingmar Øvergaard 21/9-75». Fotografiet ble funnet sammen med flere andre som åpenbart var fra samme aksesjon i forbindelse med samlingsrevisjonsarbeid sommeren 2021. Ingen av Hanestad-bildene var merket med museumsnummer. Søk i eksisterende database gav noen treff på giveren Ingmar Øvergaard, blant annet SJF.04753, som hadde med tjæreproduksjonen på Hanestad å gjøre. Bildene så imidlertid ikke ut til å være registrerte. Det eneste bildet Norsk skogmuseum hadde av tjærefabrikken Andreas Mohr Øvergaard og Otto Aakrann drev på Hanestad i perioden 1911-1920 var skannet inn i samlinga etter et innlån av materiale fra Schwencke & Co.s Eftf., se SJF-F.002592, Tjæreproduksjonsbildene fra Hanestad ble derfor registrert inn i Skogmuseets samling i forbindelse med den nevnte samlingsrevisjonsprosessen i 2021.
