Kulturhistorisk museum gjennomførte en arkeologisk utgravning av deler av kokegropfelt, samt steinalder lokalitet på Åker juni 2016. Strukturen ble registrert av Hedmark fylkeskommunes i forbindelse med nedleggelse av ny hovedvannledning og avløpspumpeledning fra Midtstranda industriområde i vest til Stasjonsvegen i øst i Hamar kommune. Utgravningsområdet lå i dyrket mark, sørøst for dagens bebyggelse på Åker, øst for E6. Det ble flateavdekket et område på ca. 885 m², som strakk seg tvers gjennom id176558. Til sammen ble det påtruffet 19 kokegroper, 3 ildsted, en grop, et koksteinslag, et nedsiget/errodert lag og et vannavsatt/sedimentert lag, samt flint.
I forbindelse med utgravningen er åtte kullprøver detaljert vedartbestemt ved Moesgård museum (2016). To av prøvene er radiologisk datert ved Beta-Analytic (2016) og de resterende ved The Ångström Laboratory, Uppsala (2016). En mikromorfologisk prøve er analysert av Dr. Richard Macphail ved London University (2017). Prøvene er forbrukt ved analyse. Analyseresultat er vedllagt utgravningsrapport (Sæther 2017).Funnet: 2016
