<ENG>Made of 32 identical triangular plates meeting at the top in a small hole, tehen. Each plate with rivets going through, 13 in each plate, all with a flower shaped washer around the base and with rounded heads. The style is called hoshibachi no kabuto, or helmet bowl with stars. The surface is brown, an artificial rust browning that resists further rust. There is a peak added, covered in stenciled leather, on the peak an iron holder for a helmet crest, maedate. On the top, surrounding the hole there is a five tiered mount, tehen kanemono, in alternatively gold (gilt) and copper. The helmet has a neck guard, shikoro, of five iron plates, laquered brown, laced together with dark blue laces set in pairs, the lowest laquered in gold. The upper plate of the shikoro is turned up at the ends to form deflectors, fukigaeshi, which like the peak are covered in stenciled leather, and both have a gilt heraldic device, mon, being four squares with square cutouts in the middle. In Japanese this figure is called shitsume = four eyes. Helmet crest, maedate: The crest is made of pressed and gilt leather in the shape of a hare (usagi) seen from the front.</ENG>- Asia Øst-Asia Japan Japan
