- Gjenstanden har vært brukt ved Kings Bay i Ny-Ålesund, en tidligere gruveby som ble etablert i 1916 for utvinning av kull på Svalbard. Ny-Ålesund har en rik historie knyttet til både gruvedrift og polarforskning, og var i drift frem til 1962 da gruvedriften ble lagt ned etter en tragisk gruveulykke. Etter nedleggelsen ble stedet et senter for internasjonal arktisk forskning. Museumssamlingen i Ny-Ålesund ivaretar en rekke gjenstander fra byens tid som gruveby, inkludert verktøy, utstyr og andre historiske artefakter som gir et unikt innblikk i livet på Svalbard i denne perioden.
