Signalhornet har tilhørt Ole Elias Myklebust som var musiker i «Divisjonsmusikken» i Trondheim, orkester- og dansemusiker og dirigent. Myklebust var far til forfatteren Agnar Mykle som i flere tekster har beskrevet sin musikerfar i forskjellige roller.
Signalhornet kalles også for et «Fürst-Pless-Horn». Navnet er knyttet til slike instrument fra 1880, etter Hans Heinrich XI, Fürst von Pless overjegermester hos keiser Wilhelm I, og hans bruk av slike instrumenter.
