- George Washington Duke (1820-1905), grundade 1881 företaget W Duke Sons and Company. 1890 gick James Buchanan Duke samman med fyra andra ledande cigarettillverkare och bildade the American Tobacco Company, därmed miste de gradvis sin egen identitet, men fick behålla ledarskapet.
