This cordage caliper was produced by our family business which is still operating now after 190 years. We were founded in 1833 in Hull, UK. Over that time we've traded strongly with Norway and Finland, especially in the 1800s. The caliper would help use measure the diameter of ropes and rigging of traditional sailing ships when they returned to port for re-supply and repair.
