En koftekledd mann - antakelig skogoppsynsmann Anders Jonsen Lindi (1858-1933) - fotografert ved Raiti skogstue i Karasjok i 1919. Fotografiet er tatt i høydeformat, og vi ser ikke bygningen i sin fulle lengde. Det er en laftekonstruksjon med inngangsdør i gavlenden og seinempirevindu på den langsida som i hvert fall delvis er synlig fra denne opptaksvinkelen. Saltaket var torvtekt og snødekt da dette fotografiet ble tatt. Ei pipe som stikker opp gjennom snøen på taket kan tyde på at skogstua hadde ildested på høyre side når man gikk inn døra. Det sto noen stokker reist mot bygningen på den sida som vendte fra fotografen. Dette kan ha vært et vedforråd. I snøen til venstre for skogstua ser vi en pulk på den snødekte marka.
Dette var ei av fem skogstuer Øst-Finnmark skogforvaltning hadde i Karasjok da dette fotografiet ble tatt. Flest husvære hadde denne skogforvaltningen i Sør-Varanger, der det var fem skogstuer, trefløterstuer og ei arbeidsbrakke ved sagbruket. Også i Polmak var det ei skogstue. I Tana og i Varangerbotten hadde Øst-Finnmark skogforvaltning i 1913 gammer, ei på hvert sted.

Dette fotografiet er hentet fra et arkiv der bildene i hovedsak er tatt av statens regionale skogforvaltere og medarbeidere fra Skogdirektørens kontor (senere Direktoratet for statens skoger) i samband med befaringsreiser i forvaltningsdistriktene. Negativsamlinga, med samme nummerering, er også overlatt til museet, men mye mangler og noe er dårlig bevart, blant annet fordi opptakene i hovedsak er gjort på nitratfilm. Dette bildet har ikke bevart originalnegativ. Det fotografiske arkivet etter det statlige skogtilsynet inneholder også et større antall diaskopier, samt originale positivkopier utenfor katalogsystemet, men med samme originalnummerering fra DSS. Samlinga omfatter dessuten et betydelig antall nyere positivkopier som er registrert på emne og person hos DSS, uten egne nummer.
Other informationArthur Klerck var født på Elvenes i Sør-Varanger som sønn av stedets lensmann. Etter å tatt underoffisersutdanning og gjennomgått Steinkjer skogskole tiltrådte en stilling som skogbetjent i Sør-Varanger i 1893. I perioden 1896-1905 kombinerte han denne stillingen med å være herredskasserer i hjembygda. I 1896 deltok han også i den norsk-russiske grensekommisjon. Fra 1903 til 1924 var han skogforvalter med Øst-Finnmark som embetsdristrikt. Deretter arbeidet han som fløtingsinspektør i Pasvikelva fram til 1938. Klerck behersket både finsk og samisk, noe som viste seg meget nyttig i det distriktet han arbeidet i. Klerck hadde også omfattende kunnskaper om reindriftsnæringa, og var aktiv i flere komitéer som arbeidet med norsk-finske avtaleforhold.
