Bildet viser importkai 2 bygning 6 (kolakaien) til Odda Smelteverk hvor båter med kull/kokslaster ble losset. Båten her blir losset med en krane hvor grabben henger/kjøres av en løpekatt som transporterer lasten inn på kaien og blir tømt silo/trakt. Herfra blir lasten fyllt i vagger som henger i en skinnegang, og som blir transportert til taubanen ved importaki 1. Lossing fra denne kaien ble kuttet ut når det ble bygget ny taubane, kai og lossesilo samt innkjøpt ny lossekrane på på importkai 1 bygning 9, da ble all lossingen foretatt der. Båten ved kaia er "Pollux" til Det Bergenske Dampskibselskab. Detter er antagelig den 3. båten med navnet Pollux i Bergenske. Den ble senere solgt til Haugesund og fikk navnet Vardal, og under det navnet fortsatte den å gå på Odda (se fotonummer i-os0199).
Odda Smelteverk A/S ble stiftet 19.9.1924 og var en fortsettelse på fabrikkene Alby United Carbide Factories Limited (Sun Gas/karbidfabrikken) og North Westeren Cyanmid Company Limited (cyanamidfabrikken). Begge selskapene som stort sett hadde samme eiere, gikk konkurs og innstilte driften våren 1921.
BOC (British Oxygen Company Limited) eide Odda Smelteverk fra 1937 til 1998. Fra 1998 til konkursen i februar 2003 var Philip Brothers Chemicals Inc eier.
