Utsikt sydover mot Sannerbrua, som skimtes midt i bildet - bak den kraftige fabrikkpipen. Til venstre ligger Foss bryggeri, bygget i 1898 på tomten hvor Øvre Foss teglverk lå. Bryggeriet ble revet i 1960-årene. I horisonten - mellom de to pipene i høyre bildehalvdel - ses tårnet på Gamle Aker kirke.
Inger Munch, søster av Edvard Munch, testamenterte ved sin død i 1952 ca 200 negativer til Oslo Bymuseum. Blant dem negativene til de fleste bildene i hennes bok "Akerselven", utgitt i 1932.
