Phebe Fjellström erhöll kolten som gåva på sin 75-årsdag från Norrbottensakademien i samband med en uppvaktning hos henne i Uppsala. Lisa Keisu Lennerlöf berättar att hennes mormor i sin tur fått kolten i gåva eller som ersättning för inkvartering på det gästgiveri morföräldrarna drev i Vittangi på 1920- eller 30-talet av en samekvinna som ej hade råd att betala på annat sätt. Mormodern Sofia Lundström var småskollärare i byn i många år. Lisa fick kolten av sin mormor i början på 50-talet och hon beskrev den som en vardagskolt, om hon minns rätt var den från Karesuando, eller möjligtvis från Soppero eller Vittangi. Lisa skriver att hon minns att sättet att sy kolten på något sätt var "avslöjande". (Oklart om det syftar på härkomsten eller något annat.)
Phebe Fjellström invigde i december 2005 utställningen DUODJI - en resa genom tiden på Upplandsmuseet. Utställningen skildrade utvecklingen inom samisk bruksslöjd. I samband med detta tillfälle skänkte Fjellström kolten till Upplandsmuseet.
