HistoryDen 2 december 1954 hölls taklagsfest. Kommitténs kvinnliga ledamöter ordnade med festen.
Möbelinköpen gjordes i Skara och sköttes av Ivar Andersson och Vanja Söderberg. Flera gåvor skänktes till hemmet, bl a ett piano av Röda Kors-kretsen, en pendyl av Socialdemokratiska kvinnoklubben och en mässingsljusstake av Folkpartiets kvinnor.
År 1955 beslöt fattigvårdsstyrelsen att inbjuda alla sömnadsintresserade damer till ett möte för att få dem att sy och märka lakan och handdukar. Textilier inköptes av Almedahls (i Krokslätt) tillverkning och kvinnor från alla politiska partier deltog i arbetet. Den drivande kraften bakom detta var Ulla Eklund, Sagered. Lakan och handdukar märktes med B.H. i färgerna grönt för personal, rosa för kvinnliga och blått för manliga pensionärer. Huvuddelen av detta linne finns kvar än i dag (i Mölndals stadsmuseums samlingar).
År 1955 stod huset färdigt och invigningen skedde den 8 september 1956. Det består av ett mitthus med entré och hall samt föreståndarinnans expedition. Där finns också matsal och kök samt ett rum med toalett avsett för kokerskan. Vindsvåningen rymmer en lägenhet om två rum och kök för föreståndarinnan samt rum med toalett för ett vårdbiträde. I en vinkel till mitthuset ligger pensionärernas rum. Övre våningen innehåller sex enkelrum med tvättställ och ett dubbelrum. Dessa rum ligger längs ena sidan av korridoren. Utmed andra sidan finns allmänna utrymmen såsom dagrum, isoleringsrum, bad och toaletter. I bottenvåningen finns likaså en korridor med tre dubbletter (små lägenheter) och ett enkelrum. Dubbletterna har hall, pentry, toalett, ett rum med utgång till trädgården och ett sovrum. På andra sidan korridoren finns badrum, linnerum, arbetsrum, skyddsrum och svepningsrum. Det senare rummet har tegelgolv och kakelväggar. Fönstret har blyinfattat, färgat glas. Mitthusets källarvåning består av pannrum, tvättstuga, torkrum och skafferi.
1955 var Brattåshemmet ett av landets modernaste ålderdomshem. Speciellt var det dubbletterna med egen utgång till trädgården som uppmärksammades.
Den 10 oktober 1955 flyttade den första gästen in. Det var Emma Andersson från Heljered. Hon var 89 år och så skröplig att hon fick bäras in. Hon lär då ha sagt: ”I har byggt ett hus för friska åldringar, men den första får I bära in.”
1986 var Brattåshemmet i stort sett oförändrat sedan det byggdes, men köket har ändrats och utvidgats och lägenheten har blivit personalrum. Ingen personal bor längre på Brattås.
