I januar 1919 vedtok herredsstyret i Våler i Solør å kjøpe et areal i nærheten av jernbanestasjonen på Braskereidfoss med sikte på å etablere Våler kommunale Dampsag & Høvleri. Kommunepolitikerne ønsket å foredle mest mulig av virket fra den 50 000 dekar store kommuneskogen og gardsskogene i bygda lokalt. Vedtaket om at kommunen skulle bygge sagbruk ble fattet i en periode med høye trelastpriser, og i en situasjon der den forholdsvis nyåpnete Solørbanen gav gode muligheter for å få produktene fra sagbruket ut på markedet, samtidig som et privateid sagbruk i Vålbyen var lagt i ruiner etter en brann. Bygginga av dette første sagbruket på Braskereidfoss skal ha kostet om lag 120 000 kroner, en sum som ble belastet kommuneskogens regnskap. Alt i 1921 møtte skogbruket og skogindustrien her til lands et av sine verste konjunkturfall noensinne, noe som nok fikk konsekvenser for aktiviteten ved sagbruket på Braskereidfoss, som bare periodisk var i drift, dels for å sysselsette noen av de mange arbeidsledige i lokalsamfunnet. Etter en ny konjunkturkrise i 1929 gav Våler kommune opp, og leide ut produksjonsfasilitetene til Oslo-firmaet Holth & Foss. Dette selskapet drev sagbruket i ti år med en lokal driftsbestyrer. I 1939 ønsket Holth & Foss å avvikle sitt trelastengasjement i Solør. I denne situasjonen tok tre driftige, lokale skogeiere et initiativ gjennom «Vaaler Fellessalg» – skogeierlaget i bygda – og dannet «Vaaler Skurlag S/L», som fikk 26 lokale skogeiere som andelshavere. Krigsutbruddet i 1940 la en demper på mangt, men okkupasjonsmaktens materialbehov stimulerte trelastmarkedet. Skurlaget i Våler nøt godt av at tyskerne ville bygge militærleir, flyplass og fengsel for krigsfanger på Haslemoen, i sagbrukets nærområde. Inntektene fra materialsalget muliggjorde investeringer i produksjonsmateriellet. Etter fredsslutningen fikk flere av de sentrale aktørene i virksomheten, som også hadde hatt roller i det tyskvennlige partiet Nasjonal Samling, fratatt posisjoner og straffet. Også selskapet, som nå ble kalt «Våler Skurlag A/L», måtte betale for å ha levert trelast til okkupantene og for at de skattebeløpene de hadde bidratt med i krigsåra ikke hadde stått i rimelig forhold til inntjeninga. Trelast var imidlertid en sterkt etterspurt vare i etterkrigsåra, og Våler Skurlag ble drevet videre med overskudd, i hvert fall fram til slutten av 1950-åra. På begynnelsen av 1960-tallet ble videre utbygging av sagbruket på Braskereidfoss et tema, denne gangen med ledelsen i Glommen Skogeierforening som medaktører. Målet var å øke kapasititen fra et årlig tømmerforbruk på 10 – 12 000 kubikkmeter til om lag 50 000 kubikkmeter. Midler til modernisering og kapasitetsutvidelse ble skaffet gjennom en lokal aksjeemisjon og med tilskudd fra det regionale skogeiersamvirket. I 1964 ansatte Skurlagets styre den driftige sagbrukslederen Oddvin Hulleberg (1925-2010) som disponent, men et par uker før han skulle begynne, den 16. mars, ble bedriften rammet av en storbrann som ødela mye av produksjonsmateriellet. Bruket ble gjenoppbygd med et nytt «Gullhøneanlegg» og ei tømmertakende bandsag, som skulle skjære det groveste virket. Med finansiell bistand fra Glommen Skogeierforening og Norges Skogeierforbund ble det også reist ny kontorbygning (1965), fyrhus og trelasttørker (1968 og 1969), justerings- og sorteringsverk (1969-1970), tømmersorteringsanlegg og ny rammesag (1971-1972). I denne ekspansjonsfasen (1966) ble eierskapet til Våler Skurlag omorganisert fra å være et lokalt samvirkeforetak til å bli et aksjeselskap, der skogeiersamvirket fikk stadig større innflytelse. Skogeiersamvirket hadde store planer for videre industriell satsing, og etter langvarige forhandlinger om lokalisering ble det i 1970-71 reist en sponplatefabrikk på nabotomta på Braskereidfoss. Tanken var å etablere et «skogkombinat», der sponplatefabrikken kunne nyttiggjøre seg noe av avfallet fra sagbruket. Ledelsen i skogeiersamvirket valgte å legge sagbruket og sponplatefabrikken inn i samme selskap, «Saga skogindustrier AS». Bygginga av sponplatefabrikken var budsjettert til cirka 30 millioner kroner, men viste seg å koste over 50 millioner. Sponplateproduksjonen møtte også driftstekniske og markedsmessige utfordringer, og ble i første omgang et stort underskuddsforetak, noe som også satte partneren, Våler skurlag, en vanskelig situasjon. Konkurs ble unngått ved omorganisering av skogeiersamvirkets industribedrifter i et nytt, stort selskap, Norske Skogindustrier AS, i dagligtale bare «Norske Skog». Mens dette pågikk hadde sagbruket på Braskereidfoss blitt Norges største. I toppåret 1973 ble det skåret trelast av bortimot 200 000 kubikkmeter tømmer på Braskereidfoss. I andre halvdel av 1970-åra sank produksjonen igjen, blant annet fordi flere sagbruk forsøkte å ekspandere i en region der det ikke var nok tømmerråstoff til alle. Skurlaget pådro seg også negativ oppmerksomhet, dels fordi brukets store rammesag og et oljefyringsanlegg skapte store miljøproblemer i nabolaget, men også fordi bedriftsledelsen og den mannsdominerte fagforeningen i forbindelse med nedbemanning i 1975 valgte å si opp 13 kvinnelige produksjonsarbeidere under henvisning til at de hadde ektefeller som forsørget dem, stikk i strid med ansiennitetsprinsippet. Den siste saken fikk enorm medieoppmerksomhet, og beslutningstakerne ble eksponert for et betydelig press, også fra sine samarbeidspartnere i Norsk Arbeidgiverforening og Landsorganisasjonen. Det endte med at mange av kvinnene ble tatt inn i arbeide igjen, men Våler Skurlag fortsatte å være en mannsdominert virksomhet. I Norske Skog ble sagbruket på Braskereidfoss innlemmet i en trelastdivisjon, som hadde lav prioritet i forhold til skogeiersamvirkets dominerende satsing på papirindustri, og som også hadde en ledelsesstruktur som gjorde virksomheten i Solør ganske perifer. Dette var antakelig årsaken til at Oddvin Hulleberg forlot bedriften i 1977, sannsynligvis også til at flere dyktige etterfølgere forlot lederstillinger ved sagbruket etter forholdsvis kort tid. Administrativt sett ble situasjonen neppe umiddelbart enklere for ledelsen ved Våler Skurlag da Norske Skog i 1985 også kjøpte konkurrenten Langmoen AS i Brumunddal. Utover i 1980- og 1990-åra ble imidlertid flere av de andre sagbrukene som hadde konkurrert med Våler skurlag på tømmermarkedet avviklet, og i 1998 var det slutt på trelastproduksjonen i Brumunddal også. I en periode da flere andre sagbruk ble nedlagt, fikk Våler Skurlag i 1994 mulighet til å investere i ei ny hurtiggående saglinje med en årskapasistet på bortimot 400 000 kubikkmeter tømmer ved toskifts drift. Samme år ble Jan Reinås (1944-2010) konsernsjef i Norske Skog. Under hans ledelse satset konsernet mer og mer ensidig på treholdig trykkpapir (avispapir), der man hadde ambisjoner om å bli en stor internasjonal aktør ved å kjøpe opp konkurrerende virksomheter rundt omkring i verden. I denne fasen ble sagbrukene og sponplatefabrikkene først skilt ut i selskapet Forestia AS, og ved inngangen til 2000-tallet ble dette selskapet overdratt til Moelven-konsernet, som etter et krakk i ferdighusbransjen konsoliderte virksomheten med trelastproduksjon på det skandinaviske markedet som kjernevirksomhet. Dermed ble Våler Skurlag til «Moelven Våler AS». Sagbruksdriften på Braskereidfoss ble videreført sammen med virksomheten på Stolpeterminalen i Elverum. Under Moelven-konsernets ledelse ble virksomheten ved Våler skurlaganalysert og effektivisert, noe som gav gode overskudd noen år, inntil bransjen ble rammet av ei ny finanskrise i 2008-2009. Sagbruket på Braskereidfoss kom seg imidlertid vel gjennom denne lavkonjunkturen også. Bedriften er viktig i et lokalsamfunn der jordbruk og skogsdrift har vært basisnæringer. Før den store ekspansjonen begynte i midten av 1960-åra sysselsatte Skurlaget 25 mann, som hadde sesongarbeid. I løpet av første halvdel av 1970-åra steg antallet medarbeidere til 185 i helårsstillinger. Seinere har rasjonaliseringstiltak, som var nødvendige for at virksomheten skulle være konkurransedyktig, gjort det mulig å redusere staben til 66 medarbeidere (2017).

Sentralt i forgrunnen, øst for jernbanelinja, ser vi et materiallager (bygd 1932) og ei rekke med digre materialstabler østover mot gjennomfartsvegen gjennom Solør (Riksvei 2, som seinere er flyttet litt lengre mot øst for å gi mer areal til sagbruket og sponplatefabrikken som ble etablert her i slutten av 1960-åra). Til høyre i forgrunnen, lå en sag- og høvleribygning, som antakelig ble oppført i 1932, og i forlengelsen av dette ser vi fyr- og maskinhuset, som var oppført i teglmur ti år seinere. Lengst sør på sagtomta, ved høyre bildekant, lå det nyeste av Våler skurlags daværende saghus (bygd 1942 for elektrisk drift, brannherjet vinteren 1964). Bygningen som mellom fyr- og maskinhuset og «nysaga» skal ha vært et mindre materialhus, som også fungerte som ekspedisjonslokale for lokale trelastkunder. Kornsiloen like sør for fyr- og maskinhuset, som seinere har vært et landemerke på området, ble først påbegynt i 1953. Til venstre i forgrunnen ser vi villabebyggelsen langs Braskereidvegen, som på østsida av Solørvegen går over i Gravbergsvegen (mot høyre bildekant), med Lundvegen som avstikker mot den mer sentrale den av bildet. I åkerlandskapet til venstre ser vi gardene Lundeby og Elset.
Fjellanger Widerøe har drevet med flyfotografering siden ca. 1935. I 1934 og 1936 slo Helge Skappel og broren Vilhelm S. seg sammmen med brødrene Viggo og Arild Widerøe og dannet et felles flyselskap, Widerøe's Flyveselskap a/s.

FW AS leverer idag flybilder fra hele Norge. På firmaet på Fornebu valgte man å selge ut Skråfotoarkivet til alle landets kommuner. Salget foregikk over en periode på over ti år. Noen få kommuner valgte å ikke kjøpe bildene, disse finnes fremdeles i firmaet i dag. I etterkant har firmaet kjøpt opp flere andre flyfotoarkiv, i tillegg til å bygge opp Fjellanger-Widerøe-arkivet.
