Detta diapositiv i färg är en del av den byggnadsinventering som gjordes i Vänersborg 1972. Motiven på färgbilderna visar oftast bebyggelse ur ett gatuperspektiv.
Merparten av fotografierna från inventeringen, översiks- och detaljbilder är annars utförd på svartvit småbildsnegativ 24 x 36 mm.

På uppdrag av byggnadsnämnden i Vänersborgs kommun utförde dåvarande Norra Älvsborgs museiförening under 1972 en byggnadsinventering av den centrala stadsbebyggelsen i kommunen. Samtidigt utfördes en översiktlig utredning om Vänersborgs stadsplane- och bebyggelsehistoria. Då utredningen bland annat var ämnad att såsom en delrapport ligga till grund för generalplanearbetet för Vänersborgs centrum drogs gränsen ungefärligen vid Lyckhemsgatan, Edsvägen, Idrottsgatan, Adolf Andersohnsgatan, Regementsgatan samt Vänern, hamnkanalen och Lilla Vassbotten. Dessutom finns större delen av bebyggelsen på Blåsut med. Inventeringen bekostades med medel från Vänersborgs kommun och från dåvarande Älvsborgs läns landsting.
Inventeringen var total och dokumenterade samtliga fastigheter inom nämnda område. Sammanlagt registrerades och fotograferades ca 1300 fastigheter, och bildmaterialet omfattar ca 8000 bilder. Kartor upprättades över bebyggelseområden samt över utvärderade byggnader, bebyggelseområden och stadsmiljöer.
