Bombingen av "Black Watch" i Kilbotn den 4. mai 1945, fotografert fra et av flyene som deltok i angrepet.
Den tyske u-båtbasen i Kilbotn ble angrepet av 44 fly fra tre britiske skvadroner (jagerbombere fra 846 og 853 skvadronene, og jagerfly fra 882 skvadronen). De hadde tatt av fra hangarskipene HMS "Trumpeter", HMS "Searcher" og HMS "Queen", som lå i en posisjon sørvest av Vesterålen, midt mellom de to radarstasjonene på Bleik og Eggum i Lofoten. Angrepsstyrken besto av Avenger jagerbombere og Wildcat jagerfly, og ble ledet av skvadronsjef Lt. Cdr. C. L. F. Webb. M/S "Black Watch" var et kombinert passasjer- og godsskip på 5.035 brt., tilhørende A/S Ganger Rolf (Fred Olsen Lines). Hun var bygget i 1939 for rederiets Englandsrute, men ble etter okkupasjonen rekvirert av tyskerne, og brukt som rekreasjons-/depotskip for u-båter og mannskaper. Både ubåten og depotskipet ble senket i angrepet. Vraket av "Black Watch" ligger fortsatt i Kilbotn, og er et yndet mål for dykkere.
