Hr. Ring har ledsaget sin Gave med forskjellige Oplysninger, dels om den siamesiske Stentøi-Industri i Almindelighed, dels om de enkelte Stykker. I Swankhalok antages denne Industri at have taget sin Begyndelse i det ellevte Aarhundrede, da den lededes af chinesiske Mestere. Den fortsættes indtil Ayuthia, Siams gamle Hovedstad, i 1767 faldt for Birmanerne. Efter dette Aar blev nemlig alle de Stentøis-Brænderier, som laa nordenfor denne Stad, ødelagte. Der laa ogsaa Brænderier i det sydlige Siam og henimod Grænsen af Cambodja. Men der savnes endnu om disse paalidelige Oplysninger. Nylig er der i Bangkok stiftet et Siam society for Undersøgelser af den siamesiske Archæologi og Historie. Flere Prinser af Blodet og fremragende Siamesere er, foruden mange Europæere, Medlemmer af dette Selskab, for hvilket Kronprinsen af Siam, Mahavarijudh er Ærespræsident. Forhaaabentlig vil dette Selskabs Arbeide komme til at kaste Lys over mange Spørgsmaal, som endnu ligger i Mørke og er Gjenstand for Gjætninger. Om 12930, der indeholdt brændte Menneskeben, oplyses, at det alene var den høiere Klasse, hvis Levninger opbevaredes paa denne Maade. Siameserne vil have det til, at dette Stykke er forarbeidet i Siam ved Aar 1700, medens Oberst Gerini mener, at det stammer fra China og er forholdsvis nyt. Alt det sorte, blaa og grønne Stentøi (12867, 12881, 12886, 12959, 13042, 13043 o.s.v.) med de to Guddomme Thepha-Nôm og Norasing er forarbeidet i Aarene 1700-1767. Der er, da det vides, at der tilsamme Tid er forarbeidet i China sort Porcellæn for indiske og persiske Marked fremsat den Formodning, at det sorte Porcellæn, som forekommer i Siam, skulde være forarbeidet i China og nærmest stamme fra Kien-lungs Periode, 1736-1795. Det er paafaldende, at der ikke i den hele Samling forekommer et Billede af en Elefant, der i Siam og Birma regnes for et helligt Dyr. Af Hensyn hertil kunde det formodes, at Porcellænet var fabrikeret i China for Salg paa det siamesiske Marked. Figurerne paa de forskjellige Gjenstande synes at have et chinesisk Præg; men alligevel mener de flæste Europæere saavelsom Siameserne selv, at det sorte Porcellæn er tilvirket i Siam. Enten er derfor Porcellænet helt forarbeidet i dette Land, eller ogsaa er det indført, hvidt eller farvet, fra China til Siam, hvorefter det er malet i dette Land og der det nye Mønster indbrændt af siamesiske Kunstnere. - Af disse Krukker anvendtes de største med Laag til Opbevaring af kogt Ris. I de middelsstore Krukker opbevaredes de forskjellige Delikatesser, som nydes til Risen; de mindre anvendes paa forskjellig Maade, bl.a. til at opbevare Salve, Betelnødder, Seriblade, som tygges med Betelnødder, m. m. En Kop, som 12959 anvendtes til at spise Ris, og 12882 til Carry. Smlgn. 12889. I en siamesisk Middag kan der træffes indtil 15 Smaakopper med forskjellige velsmagende Sager. Til Deserten anvendes Skaaler som 12900. Frugt serveres i store og smaa Vaser med Thepha-Nôm og Norasing. Saadanne er det dog nu ikke muligt at opdrive, hvilket ogsaa gjælder to-bencharong (pancaranga) Vaserne med Lotusblomster. Den store grønne Krukke, og de <OST>smaa</OST> blaa og grønne Kopper er meget sjeldne. Om den Type, der bl.a. repræsenteres ved 12876, se under dette Numer. (Skaaler som 13046, 13048 er ogsaa problematiske; det vides ikke, naar og hvor de er forarbeidede. Om det mangefarvede Stentøi beretter Hr.
