Veggplansjen tilhørte Gjesvær skole og ble brukt i religionsundervisning.
Plansjen ble produsert og utgitt av det svenske forlagskonsernet P.A. Norstedt & Söners förlag, i Stockholm 1949. P. A. Norstedt & Söners var på den tiden et datterselskap i Esselte-konsernet.
P.A Norstedt & Söners förlag er Sveriges eldste forlag grunnlagt i 1823 av Per Adolf Norstedt (1763-1840) fra Örebro. Han tok over boktrykkeriet til J.P Lindhs enke og fikk publisert sin første bok om brennvin i 1823. I begynnelsen var det for det meste psalmebøker, skolebøker, akdademisk og historisk litteratur som ble utgitt. Norstedt fortsetter å utgi bøker på 1830- og 40-tallet, etterhvert lar han sine to sønner Adolf og Carl Norstedt drive forlaget videre. I 1930 blir P.A. Norstedt & Söners förlag kjøpt opp av Esselte-konsernet. Norstedt ble solgt videre til forlaget Liber i 1990, som solgte det videre til Kooperative Förbundet. Fra 2016 har Norstedts Förlagsgrupp vært en del av Storytel-konsernet.
Plansjen er dekorert med et dypptrykk, og er en reproduksjon av et maleri opprinnelig malt i 1903, av kunstmaleren og proffesor Julius Kronberg (1850-1921). Kronberg var en av de fremste svenske kunstmalerne i perioden 1870–1920. Han er særlig kjent for å male historiske komposisjoner. Dypptrykket er produsert av det østerriske trykkeriet og reproduksjonsfirmaet C.Angerer & Göschl. Trykkeriet var den største leverandøren av sinketsninger for europeiske trykksaker fra 1880-årene og utover de første tiårene på 1900-tallet.
Plansjer var en del av anskuelsesundervisningen som ble en sentral pedagogisk metode i skolen på slutten av 1800-tallet. Metoden gikk ut på å korrigere, orden og utvide barnas kjennskap til omgivelsene og utvikle barns evne til å observere slik at de kunne gi en tilfredsstillende muntlig eller skriftlig fremstilling av et emne. Pedagogene Johan Amos Comenius og Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi regnes som grunnleggerne av anskeulsesundervining som pedagogisk metode. Da litografiet og andre trykkemetoder dukket opp på slutten av 1700-tallet ble det mulig å masseprodusere plansjer. Skoleplansjer var aktivt i bruk fram til 1960–70-tallet.
