Troligtvis Ottomansk 1800-tal. Motivet i föremålets mitt föreställer livets träd.
Föremålet har tillhört inventarierna i det s.k. Gerlachska huset i Varberg. Huset lät uppföras mellan åren 1887 och 1891 av industrimannen Hugo Gerlach (1854 - 1907) och var utmärkande för Varbergs stadsbild med sin påkostade interiör och exteriör. Huset förblev i familjens ägo fram till år 1919 då Hugo Gerlachs änka Anna Gerlach sålde det vidare. 1977 revs byggnaden.
Väggbonaden inhandlades av Hugo Gerlach under hans resa till Ceylon och Filippinerna 1899 - 1900. Hugo Gerlach skall ha haft med sig en stor mängd saker hem från resan, bland annat ett turkiskt rökbord (avbildat i boken om honom), en elefantbete, ett antal svärd, samt en grupp skurna elefanter. Vid tiden för accessionen (2024) förvaras dessa föremål hemma hos Hugos barnbarn, Hans Gerlach.
Väggbonaden har slitskador från att en stol har stått placerad framför bonaden varpå bakhuvuden har vilat mot bonaden. Den har blivit konserverad i Falun (av riksmuseets personal?) under 1980-1990-tal genom att en tunn väv har placerats som skydd över bonadens nedre del.
