Text in English: The top is a wooden construction in the form of a shallow bowl at the head of the lower mast. It provided working space for setting and furling the topsails and marksmen were posted there in battle. The top rested on the trestletrees and crosstrees, a framework of heavy beams bolted to the sides of the mast. The construction is a round platform of thick planks with a square opening in the center and surrounded by a heavy, raised rim supported on radial knees and stanchions. The joint between the knees and rim was reinforced on the outside by small brackets in the angle on the underside of the rim. The open space between the knees and stanchions and beneath the rim was closed by alternating vertical struts and thin boards; the boards had tapered edges which sat in grooves in the edges of the knees, stanchions and struts. Thin railings above the rim were supported by the stanchions. In total, the fore- and maintops each consisted of over 200 separate pieces of wood, the other tops a few less..
Much of the original material was used to reconstruct the fore and main tops, and is mounted on the ship.
Foretop
Both crosstrees and one of the trestletrees survive, but less than half of the planking was found. Many of the smaller components associated with the rim, including about a third of the rim, were found lying on the deck at the foot of the mast.
Maintop
None of the trestletrees or crosstrees has been found, but the top itself is nearly complete, with its parts spread over the upper gundeck and along the port side outside the ship. All of the planking and knees survive, together with the majority of the stanchions and struts, about half of the rim and many of the brackets and thin boards.
Mizzentop
Although the mizzen mast itself disappeared, it stood long enough for many of the top components to fall to the deck. One of the crosstrees survives, together with all of the knees, part of the rim, and several stanchions, brackets, struts and thin boards. None of the planking was found, but the original diameter can be reconstructed from the other components.
Sprittop
One knee, found forward of the bow, probably comes from the sprit top. Its size suggests that the sprittop was of similar construction to the mizzentop but smaller.
