Opprettelsen av Fauske Apotek ble stadfestet ved Kongelig resolusjon av 18. september 1909, etter at en innstilling fra Justisdepartementet var bifalt.
I februar 1910 fikk apoteker Alf Zetlitz fra Larvik bevilling til å opprette og drive et apotek i Fauske. I oktober 1910 kom den første apoteker til Fauske. Zetlitz dør og i 1910 fikk apoteker Kjartan Ruud bevilling til å drive Fauske Apotek.
Da Fauske ble bombet 22. mai 1940 sto nesten bare apoteket igjen i sentrum. Ved krigens slutt var apoteket og bygningen nokså nedslitte, delvis p.g.a tyskernes bruk av bygningen. Det skulle likevel gå noen år før ny apotekbygning sto ferdig (1961).
Produktene kommer fra Fauske Apotek og ble gitt til museet på slutten av 1900-tallet, da Apoteket skulle flytte til nybygg i Sjøgata.
