- Olaf var eldste sønn av Anton Julius Johansens første ekteskap. Han ble født på Lysaker ved Oslo men hadde sin senere oppvekst i Kenya der faren kjøpte land allerede i 1904. Olaf ble snart involvert i farm-relatert arbeid som hjelpende hånd for sin far mens han var bestyrer på Juja Ranch på Athi Plains for den styrtrike amerikaneren Mc Millan, og fra 1908 på farens egen farm på nærliggende Mua Hills. Ett år før første verdenskrig ble Olaf Johansen ansatt av norske Azania Ltd. på deres 12,000 mål store eiendom Kamuthanga, også beliggende på Mua Hills. Der kom også William Krag i 1913. Olaf og hans yngre bror Alfred meldte seg til tjeneste på britisk side under hele krigen, så Krag ble alene om driften. Fra 1920 overtok Olaf Johansen all drift på Kamuthanga Estate der han satset på kaffe og kveg med lite kapital og under ganske vanskelige forhold. Han ble gift med engelske Florence Harrison i april 1919 og de fikk tre barn sammen: Kristian, Olava og Richard. Olaf og Flossie hadde et godt ekteskap og de levde så godt de kunne med dårlig økonomi. Like etter Kenyas frigjøring i 1963 bestemte de seg, i likhet med mange andre, å flytte til Australia. Olaf søkte også lykke på New Zealand, der han døde 90 år gammel.
