I Västerås konstmuseums samling finns historiska såväl som idag verksamma konstnärer representerade. I samlingen finns ett 80-tal verk inklusive skissböcker av konstnären Brita Nordencreutz (1899–1982).
Brita Nordencreutz konst rymmer en bredd av uttryck och motiv. Vissa verk är föreställande, andra mer abstrakta. Hennes motivvärld består av landskap, stilleben och porträtt. Ofta hämtades scenerna och modellerna från konstnärens många utlandsresor. I verken förenas färg och form på ett skickligt sätt. Brita Nordencreutz målade ofta i olja, tempera eller akvarell. Under sitt konstnärskap rörde hon sig mellan kubismens modernistiska formspråk och ett klassicistiskt uttryck. Hon var starkt influerad av sin tid i Frankrike under 1920-talet. En viktig inspirationskälla var även konstnären Pablo Picasso.
Brita Nordencrutz växte upp i Västerås. Hon fick en bred konstnärlig utbildning vid skolor som Carl Wilhelmsons målarskola i Stockholm, André Lhotes målarskola i Paris och Hans Hoffmans målarskola i München. Dessutom gjorde hon ett antal studieresor till länder som Italien, Österrike och Turkiet, och vistades flera längre perioder i Spanien. Brita Nordencreutz närvaro i hemstaden, dit hon återvände efter sina studier, märks av inte minst genom de offentliga konstverk hon utfört. 1939 vann hon en tävling och fick i uppdrag att uppföra en dekorationsmålning på Hakonbolagets, blivande ICA, huvudkontor i Västerås. Hon utförde även väggmålningar till Västerås stadshotell och Tekniska verken under 1940-talet.
