Nore stavkirke er den ene av to bevarte stavkirker med midtmastkonstruksjon fra middelalderen. Den kan være bygget ca. 1170-1200. Det antas at kirken er bygd som korskirke fra opprinnelsen, noe som var uvanlig for stavkirker. Våpenhuset ligger mot vest, og midt på taket står en takrytter. Den utvendige kledningen av stående panel er tjærebredd.
Kirken har gjennomgått endringer, men skipets hovedform og konstruksjon er bevart. I 1683 ble koret utvidet. I skipets tverrarmer er det utskårne riksvåpen med årstallene 1709 i syd og 1719 i nord, som viser til tidspunkt da korsarmene ble utvidet. Kirkerommets innredning og dekor er preget av endringer på 1600- og 1700-tallet. Interiørflatenes rike dekor er malt ca. 1650-1750. Altertavlen med Nattverden fra 1704 er malt av Nils Bagernes. Benkeradene med kronete vanger er fra 1700-tallet. På nordsiden av korskillet er rester av et krusifiks fra 1200-tallet spikret opp, og en enkel firkantet døpefont dekorert med enkle trekantete tannborder er også fra middelalderen. For øvrig er lite av middelalderens kirkeinteriør og inventar bevart i kirken. Den lukkete stolen i koret ble brukt av presteenker.
