Det første lenseanlegget på Nes i Skiptvet ble anlagt i 1853. Det kom som en erstatning for den gamle Lindhollensa nedenfor Vammastrykene i Askim, som hadde vært tømmersorteringsanlegg for nedre del av Glomma i mange hundrede år. Egentlig ble det, på grunn av vindforholdene, bygd to lenser på Nes i 1853. Den som ble kalt Neslensa lå på vestsida av elveløpet ovenfor Nestangen, der det var en markant elvesving. På motsatt side, og dermed i Eidsberg, lå den såkalte Buskildsrudlensa. Ved disse to anleggene ble alt tømmer som skulle til brukene ovenfor Sarpsfossen og i Sollielva sortert fra de beskjedne kvantaene som i denne perioden skulle til Fredrikstad. Etter hvert som antallet tømmerkjøpere og mengdene med tømmer økte, ble imidlertid kapasiteten ved anleggene for liten. Alt i 1859 ble det anlagt ei hjelpe- eller oppsamlingslense ved Furuholmen i Varteig. Etter ønske fra stadig flere og stadig mektigere sagbrukseiere i Fredrikstad, som mente at det ville være penger å spare på å samle all tømmersortering i den nedre delen av Glomma på ett sted, ble Nes og Buskildsrud lenser nedlagt i 1895, mens Furuholmen lense ble ombygd og kraftig utvidet. Furuholmlensa lå gunstig til med hensyn til vindforhold, men det var en ulempe at tømmer som skulle til Sanne og Solli bruk måtte slepes tilbake gjennom Mingevatnet. Da all fløting til Fredrikstad-brukene ble overført til det vestre løpet med passasje gjennom Mingevatnet, Isnesfjorden og tømmertunnelen til Eidet var tida moden for å tilbakeføre sorteringsanlegget til Nes. Dette ble realisert i 1908. Denne gangen ble Neslensa bygd like nedenfor Nestangen. Den nye lensa var epokegjørende i den forstand at den ikke var forankret i pæler, som var svakest når vann- og tømmermengdene var størst, med vaierfester. Denne løsningen ble seinere kopiert ved mange lenseanlegg i Norden. Den nye Neslensas store svakhet var vindeksponeringa, som kunne føre tømmeret på avveger, slik at det måtte kostbare oppsamlingsaksjoner til. Dette var, sammen med at reguleringer i vassdraget innskrenket lagringsplassen for tømmer ovenfor lensene, argumenter for flytting av virksomheten til Glennetangen i Skiptvet. Denne flyttinga ble realisert i 1938.
I 1993 ble det etablert et lensemuseum på Nes. Museet ligger idyllisk til ved Glomma. På land består anlegget av sag, verksted med smie, en dampdrevet kraftstasjon og ei spisebrakke. På elva ligger mosemaskinen med tilhørende hus.

Neslensa var ei sorteringslense, bygd etter det såkalte «kanalsystemet», som ble brukt i store, stilleflytende vassdrag med mye tømmer. Løstømmeret som kom drivende med strømmen ble fanget opp i ei beholdningslense i den øvre enden av anlegget. Derfra ble stokkene sluppet i kontrollerte mengder inn i sorteringsanlegget, der det drev langsomt nedover med strømmen. Neslensa hadde to sideornete avdelinger, bygd to og to, parvis. Langsmed «rennene» i disse avdelingene sto det lensearbeidere med fløterhaker og trakk stokker med samme påhogde kjøpermerke inn i de samme «lommene», «båser» på sidene av de langsgående renneløpene. Etter hvert som lommene ble fulle, ble de åpnet, slik at innholdet fløt ned mot mosemaskinene. Der ble tømmeret presset ihop ved hjelp av vinsjdrevne moseapparater og bundet ihop ved hjelp av vaiere. Deretter ble «mosene» - buntene - sluppet ut på nedsida av lenseanlegget og fortøyd, i påvente av at det kom en slepebåt for å buksere tømmerslep, enten mot Oppsund ved Sarpsborg i det østre elveløpet eller mot Isnesfjorden og tømmertunnelen i det vestre løpet. Dette fotografiet er sannsynligvis tatt mot tømmerinntaket i den øvre enden av anlegget.
Da fløtinga i Glomma ble avviklet i 1985 ble det ordnet slik at fellesfløtingsforeningens arkivsaker ble overlatt til Riksarkivet, som valgte å fortsette å oppbevare dem i det eksisterende arkivrommet ved Fellesfløtingsforeningens kontor på Fetsund. Amanuensis Øivind Vestheim fra Norsk Skogbruksmuseum veiledet lokale medarbeidere som startet ordning av materialet. Den daglige forvaltningen av arkivene er seinere overtatt av medarbeidere fra museet som ble etablert på Fetsund lenser i 1990. Fotosamlinga fra Glomma fellesfløtingsforening ble overført til daværende Norsk Skogbruksmuseum i Elverum. Materialet består av 72 album. Museumsfotograf OT Ljøstad har reprodusert de fleste av opptakene i dette materialet og skrevet negativnummere i albumene han har utført repro fra. Det finnes også originalnegativer til en del av motivene. Disse skal være merket og ordnet i mapper etter at de kom til museet.
Other informationJohs. Johannesen ble født i Oslo 16. mai 1877. Han tok artium i 1895, og tre år seinere ble han uteksaminert som bygningsingeniør fra Kristiania tekniske skole. Deretter var han ansatt ved Gleim og Eyde i Lübeck, seinere ved Eydes ingeniørkontor i Kristiania. I perioden 1900-01 studerte han ved den tekniske høgskolen i Dresden. I 1902 ble han fløtingsinspektør i Glomma-vassdraget, og fire år seinere ble han utnevnt til direktør i Christiania Tømmerdirektion, seinere kalt Glomma Fellesfløtingsforening. Denne stillingen hadde han fram til våren 1948, da han nådde aldersgrensen. Johannesen var ofte medlem av ulike tekniske kommisjoner, både i og utenfor fløtingsvesenet. Han skal blant annet ha høstet anerkjennelse for den innsatsen han gjorde i grenseforhandlinger med Russland. Johannesen var medlem av hovedstyret i Norsk Ingeniørforening fra 1925 til 1933, og i de tre siste åra av denne perioden var han styreleder med tittelen "president". Johs.
