Ångkorvetten Saga sjösattes i Karlskrona 1877, hennes dimensioner voro: längd i vattenlinjen 61 m. bredd av 10,5 m. och ett djupgående av 5,2 m. deplacementet uppgick till 1550 ton. Korvetten var fregattacklad och segelarian i det närmaste 1500 kvm. Sejnfallsknappen på stormasten satt på 40 m. höjd över vattenytan.
