Valdres Folkemuseum
Valdres Folkemuseum vart stifta i den nasjonale rusen omkring hundreårsskiftet, 10. mars 1901. Det var den utflytte valdrisen Nils K. Ødegaard som tok til orde for at Valdres måtte få eit offentleg museum. Bak stiftinga låg ideen om kva styrkt medvit om fortida kunne få å seie for framtida åt folk i Valdres.
I 1905 kjøpte museet Handeloftet frå garden Hande i Vestre Slidre. I mai 1906 vart Valdreshaugen (ei tre mål stor tomt) kjøpt frå Nes gard. Her kom Handeloftet opp. I 1917 selde museet Valdreshaugen og kjøpte 18,5 mål ute på Storøya. Sidan har dette vore tilhaldsstad for Valdres Folkemuseum.
Heim for 100 bygningar og anlegg
Valdres Folkemuseum er eit av dei største friluftsmusea i Noreg. Det er 100 hus og anlegg innanfor skigarden på museet. Mellomalderloftet frå Uppigard Høve er det eldste (frå før 1350) ikkje-kyrkjelege trehuset i Valdres i dag og vart oppsett på museet i 1946-1947. Museet har eit flott stølsområde. Her står stølshus frå 1700-talet og Tvengestølen frå 1948. Denne stølen vart oppsett på museet i 1998.
Samlingane på Valdres Folkemuseum teller 25 000 gjenstandar. Her er landets eldste lokale folkemusikkarkiv med over 12 000 enkeltspor med musikk og song. Museet sitt fotoarkiv teller 75 000 bilete. Opplandsarkivet har ei avdeling her med om lag 600 ulike papirarkiv. Valdres Folkemuseum har eit studiesenter og ein instrumentverkstad med produksjon av langeleikar, hardingfeler og strenger. Valdres Folkemuseum er eigd av dei seks Valdres-kommunane.

Født 14.10.1861 - død 23.12.1926
Datter av ingeniør Fredrik Julius J. (1823-1906) og Selma Heloise Haak (1824-1911) fra Sverige. Familien flyttet til Lillehammer der Hilda ble født. Hun startet sin yrkeskarriere som telegrafistinne, det oppgir hun som yrke i folketellingen for Lillehammer i 1885. Like etterpå flyttet hun til Bergen og etablerte seg som fotograf. Hun drev først forretning i Bergen i Strandgaden 34 og 64. Så sent som i 1888 vet vi at hun fremdeles fotograferte i Bergen samtidig som det oppgis at hun ble Gjøviks første fotograf i 1887 (etterfølgeren oppgir 1888). I 1887 averterte hun i Samhold: "Min fotografiske Forretning i Snedker Sandvolds Gaard, Gjøvik, aabnes Mandag den 25de April førstk." Det later til at hun endel år har drevet begge steder samtidig, for i UBBs finnes et selvportrett signert:"Hilda Julin, Gjøvik og Bergen", dessverre udatert. Kundekretsen var vid, idet hun var nesten enerådende som fotograf på Vestsida av Mjøsa rundt århundreskiftet. Gjennom sin 40-årige virksomhet har hun dokumentert Gjøvik bys utvikling gjennom flere hundre bybilder av glimrende kvalitet og tusenvis av portretter og gruppebilder av høy kvalitet. Flere unge piker fikk opplæring hos Hilda Julin. Frk. Magnuson var returcherske i 1896, mens Agnete Slettum f. 1880 i Vardal var ansatt som kopiererske i 1900. Maria Haug hadde læretid hos frk. Julin før hun startet eget fotoatelier i 1918. Astrid Andersen f. 1891 gift Idland hadde også arbeidet i atelieret noen år, og da Hilda Julin ønsket å trappe ned, ble det Astrid Idland som overtok virksomheten i 1923. Frk. Julin flyttet da tilbake til Lillehammer hvor hennes to søstre, Hilma og Tekla bodde. Allerede samme år (1923) overlot Astrid Idland firmaet til Nelly Westby Hansen (senere Nelly Westby Knutsen) som først drev det alene, senere sammen med mannen Reidar K.
