Mastveltsaga ligger i den øvre delen av Flisavassdraget, like nedenfor Nedre Flisfall. Da sagbruket ble bygd var dette fortsatt vegløst område. Fotografiet er tatt sommeren 1975, da damplokomobilen og saginnredningen fra dette anlegget ble flyttet til Norsk Skogbruksmuseum i Elverum. Mastveltsaga hadde tilhørt Amund Trongaard (1898-1974), og ble overlatt til museet av hans arvinger. Forstkandidat Jens Berger (1907-1995) var kontaktmann. Han bisto med oppmålingsarbeid og engasjerte folk som kunne hjelpe til med det praktiske. Trygve Kvesetberg fra Arneberg, som sjøl hadde arbeidet på Mastveltsaga, var leder for arbeidslaget. Med seg hadde han snekkerne Arne Sollien og Erling Udnæseth fra Åsnes. De flyttet ikke det opprinnelige saghuset fra Mastvelta, men bygde et nytt i samme format museumsområdet. Museet valgte også å støpe en sagflisovn etter et patent Lauritz Sæthern fra Eidskog registrerte i 1909. Lokomobilen, en Foster-modell fra 1912, ble løftet på plass over den nevnte ovnen ved hjelp av en kraftig kranbil. Innredningen besto ellers av kante, kløve, kappsag og kjerrat. Saghuset ble oppført i bindingsverk, som på Mastvelta, men i motsetning til det opprinnelige saghuset, som delvis var åpent, ble det som ble reist på museet av sikkerhetsgrunner fullstendig bordkledd med over- og underliggerpanel. Det ble imidlertid innsatt lemmer i veggene for inntak av tømmer og uttak av bord. Disse lemmene kunne åpnes og stenges innenfra. Ytterveggene ble innsatt med en brunsvart beis som var meget populær i 1970-åra. Bygningen fikk kreosotimpregnert bordtak av materialer som var fingerskjøtte. Dette taket viste seg etter hvert å lekke, og tidlig på 2000-tallet ble det lagt et blikktak oppå bordtekningen. Lokomobilen ble undersøkt av Statens kjelekontroll og Det norske Veritas. Nagler og godsstykker i ildkasse og dampkjel ble testet ved hjelp av ultralyd, og Hamar-firmaet Thune-Maskiner skiftet samtlige 27 røykrør vinteren 1975-76. Deretter ble lokomobilen godkjent for demonstrasjonskjøring med forholdsvis lavt kjeletrykk. Flyttinga av lokomobil og saginnredning, samt bygging av nytt saghus kostet om lag 80 000 kroner. At summen ikke ble høyere skyldtes at Nygaard sag, Udnæseth Sag, Alunbækken sag og Kveset sag gav gratis materialer, og at også transportbistand ble gitt som gave til museet. Skogrådet for Solør og Odal dekket over halvparten av de faktiske utgiftene. Restaureringa av lokomobilen kom på om lag 40 000 kroner. Også til dekking av disse utgiftene fikk museet rentemidler fra fire kommuner i regionen.
Etter at Mastveltsaga sto ferdig på Norsk Skogmuseums uteområde skrev museumsdirektør Tore Fossum følgende artikkel om lokomobilsager i serien «Jeg fant, jeg fant» i regionavisene i Hedmark:
«En lokomobil er en transportabel dampmaskin hvor kjele og maskin er bygget i ett. James Watt konstruerte den første dampmaskin alt i 1784. I 1812 ble en dampmaskin satt på hjulunderstell, og vi fikk den første lokomobil. Den bruk brukt som kraftmaskin i jordbruket, særlig til tresking.
I slutten av 1850-årene kom de første lokomobiler fra England til Norge. I skogbruket fikk lokomobilen særlig betydning for drift av enkle, transportable sager. Lokomobilsagenes viktigste epoke ligger stort sett mellom årene 1870 og 1930. Fram til 1850 hadde vi bare stasjonære, vassdrevne sager. På grunn av transportutgiftene var det bare tømmer som lettvint kunne fløtes, eller som lå like inntil sagbruket, som ble skåret. Lokomobilsagene var uavhengige av vassdrag og fossekraft. De trengte bare vann til dampkjelen. Det viktigste var at de kunne plasseres der avvirkningen skulle foregå, og dermed kunne avsidesliggende skogområder utnyttes.
Transportkostnadene var en viktig faktor for lønnsom drift. Ved lokomobilskuren var det bare planker og bod som ble transportert fra leveringsstedet. Avfallet ble igjen i skogen. Hvis plankene lå til tørk sommeren over, letnet de med 45 %, og transporten i kilo ble dermed nesten halvert. Lokomobilen kom før forbrenningsmotoren ble vanlig og lenge før elektromotoren. Den var særlig billig i drift fordi dampkjelen kunne fyres med avfall fra saga og med sagflis. Lauritz Sæthern fra Eidskog tok i 1909 patent på en sagflisovn beregnet på lokomobildrift, og den fikk fort stor utbredelse. Selv fersk, rå sagflis kunne utmerket godt benyttes, og lokomobilsagene skaffet dermed fullt ut sitt drivstoff selv. Sagflisa kunne ellers i liten grad nyttes, og det var arbeidskrevende å fjerne den, slik at skuren kunne gå sin gang.
En lokomobilsag kunne ha tømmer nok på ett sted en hel vinter, men ofte ble den flyttet både to og tre ganger i løpet av en sesong. Den ble alltid plassert så nær hogsten som mulig. Flyttingen var imidlertid arbeidsom og vanskelig, og krevde sin egen teknikk. Lokomobilene veide mange tonn. Det ble brukt to sleder, eller rustninger, og opptil seks hester under transporten.
Det er en voldsom hete og sterkt trykk i en dampkjele, og ved slitasje er den ikke ufarlig. Eksplosjon av kjelen har forekommet. Driften av en lokomobil er derfor underlagt sertifikat og streng kontroll. Kjelekontrollen under Statens Arbeidstilsyn ble opprettet i 1897. Lokomobilene ble dermed også registrert, og vi har statistiske opplysninger om antallet m.m. Flest lokomobiler hadde i vi i 1930 med hele 1 051 maskiner. Setter vi skurkvantumet til 500 kbm. per sag, får ei et samlet kvantum på 0,5 mill. kbm. Dette er ikke bare et stort tømmerkvantum i seg selv, men mye av denne kubikkmassen hadde ikke vært drivverdig på dette tidspunkt uten lokomobilsagene.
En viktig følge av lokomobilskuren langt inne på skogene var planketransporten fra til jernbane og andre leveringssteder. Hundrevis av folk og hester var beskjeftiget vinteren igjennom. Særlig i Solørbygdene og Eidskog er det rike tradisjoner om plankekjøringen.
I 1975 fikk Norsk Skogbruksmuseum en lokomobilsag i gave av Amund Trongaard (1898-1974) fra Åsnes. Den har en Foster lokomobil fra 1912 på 8 hk. Sagbruket har dobbelt spindel med kappsag og kjerrat til å trekke tømmerstokkene inn til sagbruket. Lokomobilen og sagbruket er i full stand og kan kjøres i demonstrasjonsøyemed og for skur til museets eget bruk. Det forteller om en viktig epoke i skogbrukets utviklingshistorie. Perioden er preget av enkel teknologi, men markerer overgangen til den avanserte driftsteknikk.»
Artikkelen ble publisert 12. september 1981. Etter den tid mottok museet også en modell av ei lokomobilsag, utført av Ivar Jørgensen fra Sør-Odal. Modellen har siden tidlig på 2000-tallet stått i basisutstillingen «Tid for Skog», nærmere bestemt i rommet «Over hele verden», som handler om industriell bearbeiding av tømmer.

Saghuset på Mastvelta var en bindingsverkskonstruksjon, som i den ene enden var kledd med over- og underliggende panel av vankantete bord, mens sagbenken sto i den delen av bygningen som ikke hadde bordkledde vegger. Dette fotografiet er tatt mot den ene langveggen, tett ved overgangen mellom den bordkledde og den uinnkledde delen av bygningen. I forgrunnen ser vi ei bølgeblikkplate som lå som overdekning over en jernspole som det var viklet en del vaier på. Denne innretningen (en slags kjerrat) ble antakelig brukt til å trekke stokker fram mot saghuset og sagbenken, som vi skimter inne i bygningen. Trongaardsaga. Lokomobilsag.
