Da Hammerfest historielaget brukte disse lenestolene på rådhuset i Hammerfest i 1995, fortalte man, med bakgrunn i et notat man hadde fått, at stolene hadde vært nedgravd i Kårhamn under andre verdenskrig.
Senere ble dette rettet, slik at den sanne historien kom frem, som er som følgende.
Stolene tilhørte Frida og Hans Evjen, som arvet dem videre til sin datter Selma, som ga de til museet. Evjen-familien var væreier i Kårhamn på Seiland. Da de ble tvangsevakuert i 1944, var Kårhamn siste stopp for båten, slik at man hadde oversikt over ledig lastekapasitet. Derfor fikk de lov å ta med eiendeler, som andre steder måtte bli igjen, deriblant disse to lenestoler. Stolene ble brukt i Versterålen, der familien oppholdt seg til de kom tilbake til Kårhamn etter andre verdenskrig.
