Serviset har tilhørt distriktssjef i Glommens Tømmermåling, Petter Borg (1908-1979). Borg fikk serviset på sin 50-årsdag 30. juni 1958 av kolleger i tømmermålingen. Borg var for øvrig distriktssjef 2. distrikt. I et brev fra tømmermålerkollega Thor Koppang til Petter Borgs sønn, Ola Petter Borg, gir Koppang en del informasjon om tilblivelsen av serviset. (Brevet er lagt ved som skannet fil under fanen referanser til filer.) Det er Petter Borgs sønn, Ola Petter Borg, som har gitt serviset til museet.
Serviset er laget av keramikeren Willian Knutzen (1913-1983) som hadde verksted i Fjellmora i Elverum fra 1952 til 1959. (Mer informasjon om William Knutzen, er blant annet å finne i en artikkel i Store norske leksikon, se referanse under fanen referanser til filer.)
Thor Koppang skriver blant annet slik i det nevnte brevet til Ola Petter Borg i 1983: "Det var Hans Cappelen Møystad som fikk ideen om å førhøre sig hos Knutzen [William] om ett eller andet i keramikk til en av oss oppgitt sum. "William" hadde sit verksted i Fjelmora heter det vell der nu "Kramkari" har sitt habengut. Noe særlig pratsom var Knutzen så slettes ikke, men riktig en trivelig mann og som ville høre om Petters [Ola Petters far] arbeide. Da kom merkeøkser på prat og ba om å få se noen merker. Ett solid utvalg av merker skaffet jeg ham, og resultatet kjenner du.[...]"

Distriktssjef i Glommens Tømmermåling, Petter Borg (1908-1979), kom fra Nordskogbygda i østre Elverum. Der vokste han opp på eiendommen Væringsåsen. Foreldre til Petter Borg var Christian Borg (1871-1958) og Karen Oline Borg (1878-1949), f. Liplassen. I 1936 giftet Petter seg med Oddbjørg Horndalsveen (1913-1976). Oddbjørg var datter av Otto og Anna Horndalsveen. Etter giftermålet bodde Petter og Oddbjørg på gården Skavhaugen i to år, deretter på Nyberget søndre. I 1940 kjøpte Petter eiendommen Nysted. Her bodde han og kona livet ut.
Petter hadde skogbruksutdanning fra Evenstand skogskole. Før han fikk arbeid som tømmermåler, var han blant annet fløter/fløtersjef i elva Julussa, ei sideelv til Renaelva i Glommavassdraget. Han kom inn i tømmermålingen på 1930-tallet, som hjelpemåler i 1933 og fast ansatt måler i 1936–1937. I 1954 rykket han opp til distriktssjef for 2. distrikt og fikk mer administrative oppgaver på distriktets kontor i Elverum sentrum (Leiret). Denne stillingen hadde han til 1977. Han kunne da se tilbake på en over 40 år lang karriere i Glommens Tømmermåling.
