«Damstuggu-festen
Storfiskeren Snorre Grønnæss i Søre Trysil hadde latt småfisken være i fred og bare halt opp toppkultene til damstuggu-festen på Prestøya i Glåma forleden. Bare det beste var godt nok da damstuggua fra Kvannstranddammen i Trysil skulle «rimes». Han Jon i Jons var mester for serveringen, - røde, fete ørreter og drivkvit harr ble sendt rundt bubordet sammen med duftende, gyllengul rømmegrøt – alt i skinnet fra en sprakende peis med lys over gamle stokker og hyller med neverbutter, smørørsjer, kaffekvern og snusesker oppå. Akkurat som da damstuggua sto ved Kvannstranddammen, fastslo Trygve Åsheim og fornektet ikke tryslingens sans for ekthet og stemning: Hør bare elvesuset, akkurat som ved Kvannstranddammen …
Med damstuggua fra Kvannstranddammen er et stykke fløterhistorie fra Trysil vel haket i land på Norsk Skogbruksmuseum. De som i første rekke skal ha takkens ord for det er Trygve Åsheim, museets kontaktmann i Trysil, Ragnar Kvile, giver av stuggua, Per Akre, som har «spyttet i» med sjekk og Jon Galaasen, som sammen med Åsheim har sørget for både nedriving, transport og oppsetting på Prestøya. «Riminga», som tryslingene kaller en innvielsesfest som denne, var en heder og honnør til karene fra skogbygda som så helhjertet har gått inn for denne verdifulle tilveksten til Norsk Skogbruksmuseum. Det er et eksempel på hva som kan utrettes på det rent lokale plan når det er spørsmål om å verne kulturminner på en levende og riktig måte. Konservator Tore Fossum sa det slik: Mennesket i relasjon til tingene er uhyre viktig i det museale arbeid, tryslingene har hatt sans for dette og vi overta damstuggua slik vi vil at et hus skal være. Damstuggua virker bebodd, ting som har tilhørt her er på plass, miljøet er riktig.
Men før damstuggufesten var kommet så langt var det sagt mye og mangt om den dynamiske grev Axel Mørner som kom til Trysil i 1879 som visepresident i Mølnbacka-Trysil. I damstuggua står ennå grevesenga, den forteller sin historie om livet ved Kvannstranddammen, om en tid hogstprisene for 10 og 11 tom var 2 og 3 kroner tylfta og 8 ½ alen og 3,90 og 4,60 for 17 alen. Hoggerne tjente fra 3,50 til 4 kroner dagen, det syntes greven var i meste laget. Greven rynket også på sin adelige nese over tryslingenes 14-alens tømmerslede, «et fasans åkdon» kalte han den. Iblant syntes han også at tryslingenes måte å være på var i strieste laget – «tryslingene äro ett envist slägte», var grevens karakteristikk. Men damstuggufestens deltakere fra Trysil smilte over rømmegrøten og rundduppen i peisskjæret og syntes det var i grevens tid at stuggua fra Kvannstranddammen ble innlemmet i Skogbruksmuseets samlinger, der inngår den i det store fløtningsanlegget.
For meg er dette ei kjær stuggu, sa Trygve Åsheim ved overleveringen. Her har jeg bodd mye i år etter år, jeg kjenner hver ting her, alt som er hogd i krakk og brisk og tømmervegg – alt er levende historie frå mi hembygd. Jeg er gla over å vite at damstuggua nå er i de beste hender. Og tryslingene skal ha ros for interessen og velviljen jeg er møtt med for å skaffe til veie det som naturlig hører damstuggua til. Jeg var ute etter materialer og bad om å få ei løe – ja, je jug itte – i dag har jeg over et hundre løer langs fløtervassdraget! Runddupp!
Tryslingene gjør ikke noe halvt, bare det som er skikkelig gjort er godt nok, sa konservator Tore Fossum da han takket for damstuggua. Trysil har mye fint å tilføre norsk skogbrukshistorie, vi er derfor svært gla for den nye tilveksten. Mye kan vi lese av stokkene i damstuggua, om når fløterne kom her, når dammen ble sluppet – alt dette skal vi ta nøyaktig for oss, det er en fløterlivets dagbok. Museet lover å ta vare på Trysiltradisjonene på en så riktig og ansvarsbevisst måte som mulig.
Damstuggu-festen fortsatte i den aller beste skogskarstemning med sterk kaffe på’n Lars, gode rivkjeft-replikker ved gnistregnet i peisen og få sanne og mange jugarhistorier. Og utafor, gjennom tunge grankvister over taket lyste en gul, diger augustmåne som var noen Apollo-kilo lettere enn da den hang over Kvannstranddammen …»

Aasheim var Skogbruksmuseets kontaktmann i hjembygda Trysil, og han var sentral da denne koia flyttet til museet. Her satt han og brynte ei øks. På veggen ved sida av ham hang det en diger neverkont. Vi ser også skaftene på to fløterhaker. Fotografiet er tatt da koia ble innviet som museumsbygning i august 1971.
Høsten 1970 kunne lokalavisa Østlendingen fortelle at damkoia skulle flyttes til museet, og at «Trygve Aasheim kjenner stuggua helt fra guttedagene og oppvekståra, han var også en god del sammen med bestefaren sin her ...». Da koia ble innviet som museumshus i august påfølgende år skrev samme avis følgende: «De som i første rekke skal ha takkens ord er Trygve Åsheim, museets kontaktmann i Trysil, Ragnar Kvile, giver av stuggua, Per Akre, som har "spyttet i" med sjekk, og Jon Galaasen, som sammen med nedriving, transport og oppsetting på Prestøya.» Dette fotografiet er antakelig tatt i innvielseshelga, 10. og 11. august 1971.
Dammen denne koia hadde stått ved ble bygd etter initiativ fra selskapet A/B Mölnbacka-Trysil. Dambygginga ble realisert i 1885 i samarbeid med Almänna Flottningen. Fløterne nyttiggjorde seg dette vannreservoaret første gang under påfølgende fløtingssesong. Den eksakte alderen på koia er noe usikker. Da husværet skulle flyttes til museet ble det lansert teorier om at det kunne være eldre enn dammen, og at bygningen kunne ha vært flyttet til Kvannstranda i forbindelse med at den første dammen her ble oppført. Da man under demontering av bygningen høsten 1970 og under gjenoppføring på museet påfølgende vår og sommer fant indikasjoner på at bygningen hadde vært ombygd en gang, så man for seg at dette kunne ha skjedd i forbindelse med flytting til damstedet i midten av 1880-åra. Dette er imidlertid usikkert. At Kvannstranddamkoia er gammel til fløterhusvær å være, er det imidlertid ingen tvil om. Da koia skulle presenteres for publikum skrev museumsbestyrer Tore Fossum:
«Husvær under løsfløting har antagelig bare forekommet sporadisk før år 1900. Karene laget seg nying som de lå ved der de stanset om kvelden. Ved neste dags slutt fant de seg en ny kvileplass og tente en ny varme. Dette var skikken over alt i Trysil-vassdraget og også i mange andre fløtningselver rundt omkring i landet. På dammene derimot var det annerledes. Her var arbeidet stasjonært, og samtidig med byggingen av en dam ble det også reist damstue for dampasserne. Damstuene er ellers de eldste fløterhusværene. De er vanligvis små med plass til bare to, tre eller fire mann og er plassert helt nede ved dammen, slik at karene lett kunne ha oversikt over dammen, lensene og tømmeret.»
Kvannstranddamkoia er om lag 4,5 meter lang og 3,8 meter bred, og har med andre ord ei grunnflate på 17,5 kvadratmeter. Koierommet har en gråsteinsmurt peis i hjørnet til høyre innenfor døra på gavlveggen. Ellers har den veggfaste brisker med bord foran langs de indre veggene. Vis a vis peisen finner vi et uvanlig koiemøbel: Ei seng, som skal ha vært innsatt da disponenten i Mölnbacka-Trysil, Axel Mörner, skulle komme på overnattingsbesøk.
Fløtingsaktørene hadde kontrakt med grunneierne om bruk av Kvannstranddammen fram til 1915, og fortsatte å bruke dammen fram til 1923. Fra da av benyttet de seg i stedet av Kaldflodammen i Østre Grøna og Stornesdammen i Vestre Grøna som vannreservoarer. Koia ved Kvannstranddammen ble stående, med et bølgeblikktak som bremset forfallet. Derfor var den i forholdsvis god forfatning da den ble flyttet til museet i Elverum ved inngangen til 1970-tallet. Der ble den stående ved en rekonstruert fløtingsdam, med inventar av den typen som var vanlig i slike koier. Museet hadde inntil da ikke tatt sjansen på å la gjenstandsmateriale stå i koiene fordi de var enkle å ta seg inn. Kvannstranddamkoia ble eksponert for mye vann og strid strøm under storflommen i 1995. Cirka 20 år seinere ble det oppdaget store råteskader i veggtømmeret i hjørnet der peisen sto. Det er usikkert om det var revner som oppsto i pipebeslagene under storflommen eller setninger som fikk peisvangene til å sige inn mot tømmerveggene som var hovedårsaken til disse skadene. I 2016 ble hele koia demontert, og det ble støpt ei underjordisk betongsåle som skulle stabilisere murverket før koia ble gjenoppført med en god del nytt tømmer, særlig i hjørnet ved pipa.
