Under stolphuset
The stolphus at Leksvol is dendrochronologically dated to 1677–1678. It was relocated to the museum between 1931 and 1934.Such houses originally stood on stone walls and were called bu or bur. To avoid rodent damage, posts were placed underneath, and the name then became stabbur or stolphus. Inside the stolphus there was space for various salted or dried foods, similar to the bua in a loft. Most farms had both a loft and a stolphus. This stolphus is special because it does not have a rear (covered balcony/walkway).
Under the stolphus
Under the stolphus lie three logs from Tingstugu at Sundre, which burned down on March 11, 1931. Tingstugu was built by the then sheriff of Ål, Torkjell Villand (1719–1776) from Hol. On the ridge beam, the inscription "Guds namn Ano 1764" ("God's name Year 1764") was carved. Tingstugu was otherwise large and finely crafted, and these logs tell us about the dimensions of the timber, style, and excellent craftsmanship.
